Chylous ascites due to bile duct tumour in a patient receiving automated peritoneal dialysis.

چکیده
Sir, Bacterial peritonitis is the most common cause of cloudy dialysate seen in patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD) [1]. However, the differential diagnoses include sterile ‘allergic’ peritonitis, excess fibrin and haemoperitoneum (e.g. menstrual blood loss). A rare cause is chyloperitoneum [2] caused by leakage of chyle. For the first time, we present a case of chyloperitoneum in a PD patient secondary to an obstructive bile duct carcinoma.

Chylous ascites and chylothorax due to the existence of transdiaphragmatic shunting in an adult with nephrotic syndrome.
Chylous ascites is a well-known complication of severe nephrotic syndrome. However, the coexistence of chylous ascites and chylothorax is rarely reported in adult nephrotic syndrome [1]. A 66-year-old man was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome 10 months before, presenting with progressive anasarca, dyspnea, abdominal fullness, persistent heavy proteinuria, and a 10.5 kg body weight gain. The pat...
متن کاملRefractory peritonitis by spontaneous perforation of the common bile duct in a patient receiving peritoneal dialysis
Background: Patients with end-stage renal disease are in an immune-compromised state, with infection being the most common cause of mortality among those undergoing dialysis. Case presentation: A 73-year-old woman who had received 6 months of peritoneal dialysis (PD) presented with peritoneal irritation symptoms during hospitalization for examination of PD effluent turbidity. Emergent laparotom...
متن کاملSpontaneous chylous ascites, chylomediastinum and bilateral chylothoraces encountered during laparoscopic incarcerated paraesophageal hernia repair
Chylous ascites is an accumulation of milky lipid-rich lymph in the peritoneal cavity. Spontaneous chyle leak is a rare occurrence, often associated with malignancy or cirrhosis. This is a report of spontaneous chylous ascites, chylomediastinum and chylothoraces encountered in the setting of an incarcerated paraesophageal hernia. A 60-year-old female presented to the emergency department with e...
متن کاملLaparoscopic cholecystectomy in a patient on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
The patient was a 72-year-old man who was receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) with a diagnosis of chronic renal failure. Although his response to dialysis therapy was favorable, right hypochondralgia and fever occurred, and gallstones were detected by abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography. Drip-infusion cholangiography (DIC) revealed neither dilation nor calcu...
متن کاملSclerosing Mesenteritis Causing Chylous Ascites and Small Bowel Perforation
BACKGROUND Sclerosing mesenteritis (SM) is a rare idiopathic inflammation and fibrosis of the mesentery. Its etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. It has been linked to abdominal trauma related to peritoneal dialysis, recent abdominal surgery, idiopathic inflammatory disorder, paraneoplastic syndrome, ischemia/infection, and autoimmunity. Abdominal CT is the most sensitive imaging modality,...
